Laser Rail Profile

Laser Rail was formed in 1989 in response to a need to develop small-scale technology solutions for the railway industry. The company soon grew to develop a whole range of solutions to common railway problems associated with the track and structures. This involved the integration of laser measuring systems and computer technology to replace outdated manual methods of survey and design.

Laser Rail has grown from these foundations into a company whose main business now focuses on the development of technology to support the engineering of the railway infrastructure and its interface with trains. Developing hard and soft technology from its core IPR and through partnership, Laser Rail works to introduce and implement this, therefore enhancing the economic case for rail.

The company has four main divisions, Technology, Software, Network and Metro. The Technology division concentrates on developing new technology and improving existing technology for a variety of applications across the industry. The Software Division supports the company's software portfolio, and developes new software solutions. The Network division focuses on contracts for main-line rail clients whilst the Metro division looks after underground and urban railways, light rail, and London-centric rail.

Today, Laser Rail employs over 80 people with a range of railway engineering and scientific skills. Based in Matlock, Derbyshire, and with a number of satellite offices, we have worked in partnership with a range of clients to integrate technology into their core business. We are able to use our portfolio of measurement and software solutions, supplemented by our ability to adapt our core IPR to create bespoke solutions. We also work in co-operation with a number of key industry partners throughout the UK and around the world.
