Laser Gauging Vehicle

The Laser Gauging Vehicle (LGV) is a purpose-built Land Rover road-rail vehicle for measuring railway infrastructure at speed. As with Laser Rail’s other measuring systems, the LGV uses a combination of lasers, cameras, computers and sensors to accurately measure cross-sectional structure profiles and running rails.

The LGV has the ability to:
  • Measure complete cross-sections of infrastructure such as tunnels, bridges, cuttings, platforms and signals within an arches area 7m wide, 6m high (no more that 2.5m from rail edge)
  • Measure cant, curvature and distance travelled
  • Operate at 10mph
  • Produce composite images of the closest profile at fixed intervals
  • Compatible with Laser Rail’s software portfolio including ClearRouteTM
