Laser Rail in partnership with the Infraclear project

Infraclear is a railway infrastructure clearance management project co-funded by the EUs 6th framework agreement.

The primary aim of the project is to assist infrastructure services in market-driven track management to meet growing traffic demands across Europe, in particular:

• Development of a new sensor mounted on a specific adapted railway vehicle to measure the clearance of the railway infrastructure at a speed up to 140 km/h
• Adaptation of a rail wagon into a measuring unit which can be hauled by a commercial train
• Development of a data processing device associated with an expert system to provide “conditional maintenance” programmes
• Development of a simulation tool making it possible to determine clear and safe "European routes", for a given train gauge, across borders.

Laser Rail is playing a major role in this pan-European project on interoperability. We are developing a European network database for gauge measurement, clearance assessment tools and routeing systems.
